Employee Benefits

Here are a few of the many benefits the Town of Grafton offers:

Salary

The salary for unionized employees is determined by the association's collective bargaining unit. See wage schedules of the Town's collective bargaining units (PDF). Appointments are normally made at the first step of the salary range. Salaries for management employees are negotiated by individuals.

Health & Insurance Benefits

Health, dental, life and long-term disability coverage is available to employees and their dependents. The town offers a health insurance opt-out program as well as a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA).

Vacation

Employees earn vacation leave according to the following schedule:

New employees with significant qualifications and/or experience may be eligible for additional vacation benefits at the discretion of the Town Administrator. The Department Head or Town Administrator has the exclusive right to decide and approve when vacation time is to be taken by an employee.

Holidays

All permanent, full-time employees receive regular pay for the following 13.5 holidays:

  • New Year's Day, January 1st
  • Martin Luther King Day, Third Monday in January
  • President's Day, Third Monday in February
  • Patriot's Day, Third Monday in April
  • Memorial Day, Last Monday in May
  • Juneteenth, June 19th
  • Independence Day, July 4th
  • Labor Day, First Monday in September
  • Columbus Day, Second Monday in October
  • Veteran's Day, November 11th
  • Thanksgiving Day, Fourth Thursday in November
  • Friday after Thanksgiving, Fourth Friday in November
  • Christmas Eve, December 24th, half day (if it falls on a regular workday)
  • Christmas Day, December 25th

If any holiday falls on a Saturday, it shall be observed on a Friday; if a holiday falls on Sunday, it shall be observed on Monday. Holidays are observed on those dates as specified by Federal or State law.

Sick Leave

All regular employees will receive one and one-quarter (1 and ¼) days for each month of employment or fifteen days a year for sick leave cumulative to a maximum of 120 days; regular part-time employees may accrue up to 120 days.

Retirement

Town employees are members of Worcester Regional Retirement System (WRRS) which provides generous retirement benefits. WRRS provides a defined benefit pension at retirement for Town employees. The pension formulas and employee contribution amounts may vary by bargaining unit, date of hire, prior qualifying service, and classification. You can find more information on the WRRS website.

Social Security

Town employees do not participate in Social Security.

Deferred Compensation Plan

A tax-sheltered savings program, which excludes contributions to the plan from gross income for Federal personal income tax purposes, is available to employees.

Section 125 Plan / Flexible Spending

A pre-tax program that excludes from Federal income tax purposes expenses for medical, child care or dependent care is available to employees. The Town pays for the administrative costs.
