The Grafton Historical Commission was established by Town Meeting on March 6, 1965:
Warrant Article 24: Upon motion of William R. Roche it was unanimously voted to accept the provision of Chapter 697 of the Acts of 1963 in so far as it pertains to Towns and thereby establish an Historical Commission, for the purpose of preservation, promotion and development of the historical assets of the Town in accordance with the provisions of the Act as hereby accepted which is now General Laws, Chapter 40, Section 8D.
Purpose
The Commission is established for the preservation, protection and development of the historical or archeological assets of such city or town. The commission:
Shall conduct researches for places of historic or archeological value
Shall cooperate with the state archeologist in conducting such researches or other surveys
Shall seek to coordinate the activities of unofficial bodies organized for similar purposes, and
May advertise, prepare, print and distribute books, maps, charts, plans and pamphlets which it deems necessary for its work.
